Joker 2 or Joker: Folie à Deux is a sequel of the blockbuster movie Joker 2019 and ever since the 2nd part of it was announced people were curious to know that will batman be in Joker 2? Being the villain in the batman series it was only fair for people to expect batman to make an appearance at least in the second part. But unfortunately fans were disappointed when it was confirmed that batman will not be a part of the sequel of Joker.
After the cast was announced with Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck or Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn people started to wonder and ask “is joker 2 gonna be a musical?”. Which makes complete sense since the world famous popstar of all time lady gaga was in the main cast of the movie. And to answer the question Joker: Folie à Deux or Joker 2 musical is actually a musical. This piece of information however, was a bit of a confusion for the audience since Lady gaga herself said in an interview that it is not a musical but then proceeded to describe it exactly how a musical would be described.
Joker 2: Folie à Deux takes us back into the twisted mind of Arthur Fleck. This time, his journey into madness is accompanied by a familiar yet unexpected character—Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. But there’s a twist: Joker 2 is set to be a musical, blending dark, chaotic storytelling with haunting melodies that reflect Fleck’s descent into further delusion.
As the story unfolds, Arthur meets Harley in the psychiatric institution where they both unravel their toxic, symbiotic relationship. But amidst all this, fans are left asking, “Will Batman be in Joker 2?” The Gotham City backdrop suggests the possibility of Bruce Wayne’s influence. Will Batman be in Joker 2 to challenge Fleck’s reign of chaos? Unfortunately no.
Another intriguing aspect is whether Joker 2 is really going to be a musical. Yes! This bold creative direction promises to be a mesmerizing contrast to the gritty realism of the first film. With Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, Joker 2 musical numbers will undoubtedly add a new layer of intensity to this psychological thriller.
The movie is all set to come out on October 4, 2024 however we got some quite unhappy and disappointing reviews after the premiere of the movie.
The critics gave 56% score to Joker 2 musical on Rotten Tomatoes, also reviewed the film as ‘dull’ and ‘pointless’.
Jo-Ann Titmarsh from the Evening Standard wrote: “Despite its fascinating and complex main character, the film is ultimately dull and plodding, taking us nowhere, slowly.”
The Nicholas Barber from BBC wrote: “Depending on how you look at it, this demythologizing exercise is either daring or it’s irritatingly smug, but it’s definitely not much fun.”
On the other hand, Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson thinks: “It’s startlingly dull, a pointless procedural that seems to disdain its audience”
Makers are afraid the second movie may become a mistake after a blockbuster first movie and not come as a boom in the box office.
The film is projected to earn between $50 million and $65 million from 4,100 theaters across North America during its opening weekend. This represents a significant decline from the first installment, which debuted to an impressive $96.2 million during the same weekend in 2019, setting a record for October openings. While the anticipated ticket sales for “Folie à Deux” aren’t alarming, they do fall short of expectations considering the original’s blockbuster performance. Additionally, the sequel comes with a hefty production budget of $200 million.
