We’re back with another horror movie review and this time its Wolfman movie. We can also call it wolf for short. So is wolf a scary movie?
According to multiple reviews Wolfman movie is a descent horror movie but isn’t the kind that would spook you in your sleep or keep you up all night. Actually a lot of reviews state it is rated among two of the worst movies universal ever made.
There’s a rumour going that the movie is based on a book ‘The wolfman book’ but in reality its not an adaptation of any wolfman book but does draw inspiration from some ancient wolf folklore.
The first 'real' monster makeup in a major Hollywood film was in the 1941 classic The Wolf Man, starring Lon Chaney Jr. The makeup artist was Jack Pierce, who had created Boris Karloff's famous Frankenstein look, and he worked on Chaney's werewolf makeup for the film for five hours a day for over a week. In addition to fur, fangs and a wolf nose and snout were added to the wolfman costume and wolfman mask. Chaney reprised his role two years later in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man. Applause for the wolfman!
For 2025's Wolf Man movie, director Leigh Whannell and makeup designer Arjen Tuiten wanted to reboot the iconic horror character with a nod to classic grotesque transformations. Instead of replicating Lon Chaney Jr. 's or Benicio del Toro's earlier looks, they injected some body horror into the character for a new vision that's true to Wolfman Jack Midnight Special creepy vibe. In the behind-the-scenes featurette, Whannell says he was influenced by The Thing and The Fly, while Tuiten describes the transformation as 'two anatomies trying to mix, but not quite fitting. ' It's a painful metamorphosis that echoes Wolfman Jack Midnight Special unsettling tone, mixing nostalgia with a terrifying new twist.
So is wolf a scary movie? Probably not that much but it still looks like the wolfman movie has a lot of history tangled to it that sounds too interesting to not learn more about so what are you waiting for? Go watch while its still out in theatres.
