It Ends With Us came out on the 9 th of August and as much as Colleen Hoover fans and book-tok was excited to watch the adaption of one of her most famous books of a series we happen to receive a cluster of disappointing reviews from them. Ever since the cast of the movie was announced viewers and readers specifically were already rather underwhelmed by the casting decisions of the makers. With Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, Justin Baldoni as Ryle and Brandon Sklenar as Atlas they thought the cast did not fulfill the age criteria of the characters written and described in the novel by Colleen Hoover.

About It Ends With Us Colleen Hoover

The book focuses on a super-sensitive issue that recently has been very openly talked about which is physical abuse. Colleen Hoover chose a character Lily Bloom who as a child witnessed her mother go through physical abuse by her father and promised herself every time she saw, to never end up like her mom. Eventually she grows up and falls in love with a guy named Ryle who at first seemed normal but after getting married to him turns out exactly like her father. She finds herself letting the abuse slide and do exactly the things that her mother used to do.

Why so disappointing?

Being a reader and Colleen Hoover fan myself I think the movie left out many major parts that were important for the development of the story and looked rather rushed as if it was running and desperately wanting to end. The movie was unable to develop the story and most of all there was lack of chemistry seen between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni which was a huge disappointment. The movie however did not go into detail with the visuals of the abuse which was the only thing I liked about it as that would have gotten extremely disturbing for the viewers.

Readers are hoping the adaption of the next book of the series might be better than this or I’m afraid the director will have to stop ruining our favorite books for us.
